These are copies that are a little smooshed, creased, folded, or blue. But hey, aren’t we all? It probably happened in shipment or transit or, best of all for future museum appreciation, I messed it up myself.

I would much rather one of them go to you, the person reading this right now! In a lot of ways, these are even more special than a copy that you can buy. And they are extremely limited edition.

To get one, just donate to the very kind people at Books for Keeps and email me the proof. I’ll handle the rest.

Exhibit A: this is the kind of damage I’m talking about (but it could be worse) (but it’s not that bad, right?!)

Copies available

4copies

A fair warning: I can’t keep this updated by the second. I’m one human updating things as I see ‘em. If you donate, you’re risking not getting a book, but you would still be a very wonderful person who donated. And I do try to update the number remaining as soon as I can.

How to claim one

  1. Donate any amount to Books for Keeps using the link below.
  2. Email me the proof. A screenshot or a forwarded receipt is plenty.
  3. If a copy is still available, I’ll write back and ask where to send it.

The button opens a fresh email with the subject line already filled in. Just attach the proof.

What is Books for Keeps?

Books for Keeps is a very cool local nonprofit that believes in equitable access to books for kids. They do book distribution events at schools, run a mentorship program, and even have a Bookmobile! I’m not affiliated with them, and I am not taking any of your donation. I just think they are doing very good work, and this is a very small way for us to help. You can also donate books to them or volunteer!

Technically a limited edition

Every copy that goes out this way gets numbered by hand — Bedraggled Books, No. 0004 and so on — which makes this, probably and hypothetically, the rarest edition ever published.

They arrive creased. But it’s still the whole book. When time allows, I try to make them special, too.
